The line-up for this year’s LACA School Chef of the Year (SCOTY) competition is now complete after the North West crowned Justyna Rutkowska from Birchwood CofE Primary School its regional champ.

Caterer-turned-TV personality Prue Leith has urged school meals providers to play a greater role in helping to get kids to love good food from an early age.

Leith made the call at an event organised by CH&Co-owned school caterer, Principals, called ‘Beyond the Classroom’.

The event brought together parents, nutritionists, head teachers and pupils to discuss developing an early awareness and understanding of food among children.

Leicestershire-based catering company Wilson Vale has added to its education portfolio with the signing of a three-year contract with Kent College Pembury.

The deal with the independent, day, boarding, nursery and preparatory school for girls, is worth £750,000.

Wilson Vale replaces Brookwood as caterer for the Kent school, which houses 600 pupils and 200 staff.

A new study has found that Brits would be more open to buying beef, lamb and dairy products if “a brighter spotlight was shone on their health benefits.”

With an “incredible” £375,000 donation from the People’s Postcode Lottery in 2017, charity Magic Breakfast has provided over 849,000 healthy breakfasts to pupils in 65 disadvantaged schools across the UK.

Held at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh this week (23 January), the 2018 People’s Postcode Lottery annual Charity Gala announced that together, players and a 32% donation of each ticket sale, last year raised a total £93.4 million for charities.
