Findings from the NFU Mutual Food Fraud Report have suggested low consumer confidence in food producers and a lack of confidence in the European and global food chains.

Research from the report, which features contributions from The food and Drink Federation, revealed that 63% of people blamed producers for cases of food fraud.

Children in England are being exposed to a ‘cocktail’ of pesticide residues in the produce they eat through the Department of Health’s Fruit and Vegetable Scheme (FFVS), according to Pesticide Action Network UK (PAN).

The Children’s Food Trust (CFT) will close later this year with the loss of up to 47 jobs. Charity Commission figures showed the CFT had an income of £5.6m in the year to 30 September 2016, but spent £5.8m in the same period.

The man who led the UK’s independent inquiry in 2013 into horse meat in the food chain, Professor Chris Elliott, has warned that food fraud must remain a top priority, ahead of a food industry conference later this year.
