Aramark has held its first Global Volunteer Day, with more than 150 employees running a fun ‘healthy for life’ activity day at schools across the UK.

At the same time, across many of the countries in which Aramark operates, thousands of employees have come together on the same day to deliver local community projects also based on the theme of “Inspiring kids to be healthy for life”.  The theme was chosen in recognition of the growing problem of obesity across the world and the need to provide improved awareness of healthier lifestyles.

Alliance in Partnership’s (AiP) Young Chef of the Year competition is getting underway this spring.

Any secondary school, which AiP provide a catering service for can enter, mainly from Years 9 and 10.
The competition is simple; the school holds an internal contest. Pupils involved, research and prepare their dishes in food technology sessions whilst learning about the importance of commercial catering and what constitutes a ‘good healthy’ school meal.

Food companies and operators must start preparing for the new food allergen labelling regulations coming into force from 13th December.

This regulation introduces a number of label information changes, most of which are straightforward. However, a primary requirement is to clearly indicate, within the ingredients list, any substances which are classed as food allergens and this can mean a considerable amount of work to modify existing labelling methods.

Innovate Services, the innovative catering operator to the education sector, is now providing the complete catering services for Queen Elizabeth’s High School in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.
