Enfield school benefits from new kitchen and dining space

02 Nov 2011

St. Andrew’s School in Southgate, Enfield, is officially unveiling a new £255,000 kitchen and dining centre as part of a drive to provide healthy and nutritious hot meals to pupils.

The school originally had a servery receiving prepared meals from nearby West Grove Primary School. Now, a fully equipped kitchen and dining centre has been installed so that meals can be prepared fresh on site, with the aim of further developing healthy menus for children and increasing the take up of school meals.

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council's cabinet member for schools and children's services, said: "School meals are often a child's main meal of the day. The nutrition they gain from that meal has a huge impact on their health, encouraging sensible eating habits for life.

"We want to provide the best possible quality of food we can to our pupils ensuring they get the nourishment to thrive in school."

Headteacher Louise Whitaker, said: "The new kitchen will have a massive impact on the quality of food we serve to our children and help to support the healthy eating lessons they receive in the classroom.

"This is a fantastic investment in our children's future. We want them to learn the benefits of eating good quality, healthy and nutritious food."
