South East SCOTY winner announced

The winner of the South East School Chef of the Year sponsored by McDougalls has been announced.

The overall winner was Josefine Austin from Hindhead, Surrey and employed by Surrey Commercial Services.

Based at Beacon Hill Primary School, her winning dishes were: Swedish meatballs – beef meatballs served with mashed potatoes, carrot and courgette ribbons with a creamy sauce.

Her dessert was Pineapple tart served with vanilla crème, sweet pineapple slices and a coconut crumble.

Austin was one of seven who qualified to the regional final, held yesterday (November 28) at Premier Foods head office in St Albans.

They had to cook their dishes against the clock and under the scrutiny of a panel of Judges. They had 90 minutes to prepare four portions of a main course and a dessert suitable for serving to 11 year olds in school.

Second place went to Cheryl Humphries from Cranbook, Kent, who is employed by ISS education.

Her dishes were a steamed pork bun, sesame noodles and sweet ‘n’ sour cucumber.

Her dessert was a cool mango and coconut ice cream, jelly cubes with assorted meringues.
