A scheme from the charity, School Food Matters recently gave pupils from 20 schools the chance to source, make and then market their own food products.

New data released this month indicates that the salaries of those working in kitchens went up substantially over the last year.

According to the latest report from specialist staffing company Blue Arrow, commis chefs have seen their wages rise by 16.8% from last year, from £16,554 per annum in 2016 to £17,773 in 2017.

Chefs de partie saw their wages go up 6.4% and sous chefs enjoyed a 4.4% pay rise.

School chef Leanne Oliver-Pulford’s decorated novelty cake not only won that category, but was named overall winner of LACA’s Finishing Touches salon culinaire competition.

Food charity, Magic Breakfast, has announced that its third annual village fayre will be held at London's Hoxton Square on 22 July, with proceeds from the event going towards healthy breakfasts for school children in disadvantaged areas.
