Local authority caterers across the UK celebrated the success of colleagues when the 2010 Awards were handed out at the LACA Gala Dinner.

The Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA) has sent 649 new Members of Parliament a letter calling on them to get behind the school meals service to safeguard the future health of the next generation and help stem a spiralling NHS bill.
LACA has asked MPs that they give their support to the school meals service when schools start back in September. LACA's National School Meals Week (November 8 – 12) which focuses on the theme 'Get Involved', is also urging MPs to pay a visit to one of their local schools and witness at first hand the improvements that have taken place in school food over the last five years.

NSMW, which takes place from Monday 8th November to Friday 12th November 2010, provides an excellent platform for school caterers to increase school meal numbers and promote the benefits and importance of healthy eating to young children and their parents. In 2009 market research showed that where meal numbers had increased the average was 7.8%.
This annual event run by LACA will continue to be an online campaign after the success achieved last year. Each day there will be a different theme and more information will be available at www.iloveschoolmeals.co.uk

LACA’s School Chef of the Year (SCOTY) is the only dedicated culinary competition especially tailored for our industry. It was established and is managed by school caterers for school caterers.
It has grown over the years into a significant, highly professional and widely respected annual event and all participants, not just the winners, have achieved wide recognition and kudos within their authorities, schools and local communities. In many cases, winners have gone on to enhance their careers as a result of School Chef of the Year.
To both accommodate the growth in the Competition and to reflect the format of other high profile professional catering competitions, you will see that School Chef of the Year 2011 has an exciting new format, so please take time to read through the 2011 Participation Pack and Entry Pack below.
