The finale of this year’s Autumn Seminar at Chesford Grange on November 17th, was the arrival of the runners completing the final leg of the National School Meals Week (NSMW) marathon event.

NSMW support team member Karen Robinson led home a group of schoolchildren and LACA members who joined her for the final run-in to complete her ‘five marathons in five days’ effort to promote school meals.

Karen Robinson made it past the halfway point of her LACA National School Meals Week (NSMW) marathon run yesterday as she passed through Highfield High School in Letchworth Garden City and Barneby Road Academy in Newark.

Robinson, who is running five marathons in five days powered only by school meals, travelled through the Wales, South West, South East and London regions over Monday and Tuesday.

Finalists for the Yorkshire and Humberside region have been announced as the race to be crowned LACA School Chef of the Year 2018 heats up.

The four finalists will compete at Doncaster College on 22 November in a bid to make it through to the national finals.

New data reveals that the average female chef gets paid 14% less than her male counterpart – despite the “need to retain and promote women in the sector during the continued recruitment crisis.”

Of the hospitality staff registered with recruitment agency The Change Group in 2017, women chefs earn on average £3,598 less than male chefs, while female front-of-house staff earn 9% - £2,738 – less.

Pupils from a number of primary schools in Bristol came back from the half term break to new menus and new salad carts as part of a makeover from specialist school meals provider, Alliance in Partnership (AiP).
