Food for Life creates new Foundation Award to help caterers
Food for Life, run by the Soil Association, works with primary schools, nurseries and caterers to improve food quality and education both within settings as well as in the wider community.
The new award will recognise this dedication and provide a milestone for schools to celebrate on their journey. The Foundation Award demonstrates that 75% of Food for Life Bronze Award criteria has been met and is a first step on the Food for Life Award journey, especially for those who are considering enrolling for the first time.
Charlotte Long, senior programme manager at Food for Life, said: “We recognise that schools and nurseries have a lot of challenges, and we want to make the Food for Life Award work for them and their individual needs and circumstances.
“We are really pleased to be able to make it more flexible with the addition of the new Foundation Award. We can’t wait to welcome more people and settings to begin their Food for Life journey.”
So far over 20 settings have been awarded their Food for Life Foundation Award. They’ve been celebrating with award presentation events which have even been inspiring more pupils to get involved.
Natalie Brown, Food for Life lead at The Hall Primary School who have recently received their Food for Life Foundation Award, added: “We got stuck on the criteria relating to getting rid of the flight trays. This is not something that is possible in our school at this time and has prevented us from obtaining the Bronze Award, so it's nice to find out that the other work we have been completing has been recognised.”
