LACA celebrates ‘be kind day’ to finish National School Meals Week

15 Nov 2024
The fifth theme day of LACA’s National School Meals Week (11-15th November) is ‘be kind day’ where schools have been encouraged to invite local MPs or VIP guests to enjoy a hot, nutritious and healthy school meal.

For 2024 LACA are asking everyone to carry out small acts of kindness, whether it be a thanks to the catering team, support others in the classroom, or lend a listening ear. There is a wealth of free NSMW resources to download and personalise, they can be found here.

Judith Gregory, chair of LACA the school food people, said: “Today is the final day of NSMW, so let’s all enjoy it. Thanks to Sharon Hodgson, MP for Washington and Sunderland West a great friend of LACA, we know all MPs and Lords have been invited to visit a school in their constituency to enjoy a school lunch. For those of you hosting an MP or indeed any other VIP we would love to hear from you.

“We’ve called today ‘be kind day’. For several years now we have ended NSMW with one big celebration and importantly thanks school caterers for all they do. It’s a difficult job our members do so we should all thank them as well as thanking our customers, suppliers and wider networks who help make it happen.

“May I take this opportunity to thank you all for your support during NSMW but as LACA chair my thanks go much further than that. I head up the education catering service in Cardiff so I know first hand how hard our staff work day in day out.

“I am at the LACA Autumn Seminar today and I look forward to meeting many of you in person. A little later I will be announcing the winner of our colouring competition launched on Monday in support of David Baddiel’s new book. A great way to finish what has been a busy but enjoyable week. Thanks for all your support during NSMW 2024.”
