LACA chair Judith Gregory attends Big School Meals Debate

11 Feb 2025
Judith Gregory, chair of LACA the school food people, attended the Big School Meals Debate that was held at Bidfood’s Innovation Centre in Slough.

The debate involved 14 industry figures including Neil Porter, Andy Kemp, Gavin Squires and Luke Consiglio as well as Judith Gregory.

They discussed key issues affecting the school meals industry such as the need to ring-fence school meals funding so it reaches caterers, inflation outstripping the budget and recruitment challenges.

Ideas and considerations from the Big School Meals Debate include:

  • The need to communicate with parents and raise awareness about issues in school meals
  • The need to get the message out there about the value of healthy school meals
  • The need to learn from Wales and Scotland about what they are doing differently
  • The need to develop the culture of the importance of children having good meals
  • What is more important for school caterers, lunch or breakfast?
