Mark Kent, from The Norton Knatchbull School (Impact Food Group), has won the LACA School Chef of the Year (SCOTY) South East regional final for the third consecutive year.

He has now advanced to the national final alongside other regional winners Asmaa Abdelrhman (London) and Aron Jordan (East of England). These three chefs will be joined in the SCOTY national final by seven other finalist winners and two wildcards who will compete for the overall trophy.

The regional final, which took place at Brakes Kitchen in Reading, involved three other school chefs. The competition, which is sponsored by Bisto by Premier Foods, aims to showcase the hard work of school chefs who create healthy, nutritious and tasty meals for schoolchildren every day.

For his main course Mark cooked piri piri chicken, pico salsa, chipotle sweet potato mash, cavalo nero, roasted red onion balsamic glaze. For dessert he produced Sticky toffee banana sponge, butterscotch angel delight, candied orange, caramelised banana, blackberry coulis, freeze-dried raspberry.

The winner of each of the ten regional finals will receive £100 and advance to the national final, which is being held at the LACA Main Event on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th July at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole.

The next SCOTY regional final will be the West Midlands heat, which is taking place on the morning of Wednesday 9th April at Rational’s kitchen in Cannock.
