Sharon Hodgson shares message supporting International School Meals Day
ISMD aims to encourage children and young people from around the world to connect and talk about the food they eat and the role it plays in their lives.
In the message the chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group, said: “The group has been running for over a decade now and we campaign to ensure that children get the food they need to grow up fit and healthy. I’m really excited for this tenth International School Meals Day to celebrate school meals.
“There is so much to learn about school food provision around the world. We need to share success stories of school meal programmes around the globe so that we can understand what works best whether its in the UN’s School Meals Plan, to child nutrition programmes in the United States to breakfast clubs in the UK.
“Globally I know it has been such a hard few years for those working in school food, however barriers have been overcome and so many have worked so hard in ensuring children and young people receive healthy and nutritious food. There is so much we should be proud of so this ISMD let’s share recipes, share best practice and celebrate school meals.”
Schools can get involved in ISMD by creating an international menu day, running fun food activities or by holding fundraising activities to support school feeding programmes in developing countries.
