Jody Iske from Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate in York has encouraged school caterers and chefs to enter the second edition of LACA’s Grab ‘N’ Go Challenge.

The competition challenges school chefs to design, cook and serve a nutritious food item that can be eaten ‘on-the-go’ by youngsters.

In last year’s final Jody cooked Quorn Burrito - a flour tortilla filled with Quorn mince, Mexican rice and a spicy mayonnaise. He was given a demonstration slot on the LACA Live feature to showcase his winning dish.

Commenting on this year’s competition, Jody said: “The Grab ‘N’ Go Challenge sponsored by SchoolGrid is a fantastic competition for chefs to showcase their talent and promote good school food. It’s a great stepping stone in a school chefs’ career, and I’d highly recommend entering.”

The team of judges includes chair of judges Mark Sargeant as well as Holly Charnock, Luke Hall and Lin O’Brien. The deadline for entry is Wednesday 17th April. Enter here.

Entries will be paper judged with the successful applicants invited to cook-off at a central location week commencing 13th May 2024. Finalists will be invited to the LACA Main Event on Wednesday 3rd July 2024 to cook their grab & go item in a competition environment to decide the winner.

The winning school chef will receive £500 and a £500 set of Wüsthof professional chef’s knives as well as the opportunity to demonstrate their winning recipe at the LACA Main Event.
