Alaskan Seafood Marketing Institute joins Fish in Schools Hero programme
The nationwide scheme will see 250 schools receive deliveries of wild Alaska pink salmon, thanks to the supply and logistical support given by Sysco Speciality Group and M&J Seafood.
Rebecca Wilson, trade director for Alaska Seafood in Northern Europe, commented: “This partnership gives us a wonderful opportunity to educate food preparation and nutrition students about the unique attributes of seafood from Alaska whilst equipping them with fantastic resources for their classrooms.”
The partnership aims to provide teachers and students with detailed, fact-based information about the sustainability credentials of Alaska seafood.
The scheme also aims to help people understand the nutritional benefits of wild fish, and of course the tastes, textures and versatility of Alaska seafood.
Sarah Phillips, senior category manager at Sysco Specialty Group, added: “It’s fantastic to see businesses working together across the industry to source and deliver which will help the next generation to engage with fish and seafood. MSC Alaskan salmon has great health benefits for children, it is high in Omega 3 and is known to be good for maintaining heart health.”
