Barking and Dagenham aims to get young people to #makeachange

13 May 2015

The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham recognised its 50th anniversary in April, and to celebrate, StreetBase, the Council-run healthy living reward scheme, is offering young people the chance to win some prizes and earn 50 points for 50 years.

StreetBase members can simply share a photo of themselves cooking their favourite healthy dish, on the StreetBase Connect facebook page and will then be entered in to a prize draw to win a pair of Beats headphones, and cooking equipment.

Three runners-up will receive the deluxe cooking set. As an extra bonus, every entrant will receive 50 bonus StreetBase points just for taking part.

The competition even attracted the attention of Angelica Olawepo, Young Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, who got involved to promote healthy eating.

Councillor Maureen Worby, cabinet member for Adult Social Care and Health, and chair of the borough's health and wellbeing board, said:

"This is a great idea to get young people demonstrating their commitment to a healthy lifestyle through eating well.

“I'm really looking forward to seeing what sort of tasty and nutritious food they are serving up for themselves, family and friends.

“I recently pledged to eat more healthily, as part of the borough’s ‘Make a change’ campaign, and I’m sure that this will encourage more young people to think about healthier options."

Competition entrants must be a StreetBase card holder aged between 11 and 18. The closing date for entries is June 15th 2015.

#makeachange is the Council’s healthy lifestyle campaign, running all year round. The StreetBase campaign is designed to encourage young people using a rewards points card to participate in positive and healthy activities.
