School pupils from Cantonian and Llanishen Specialist Resource Bases will have the opportunity to learn the work skills required of a commercial kitchen for up to three days a week for three months.

Judith Gregory, vice chair elect of LACA, said: “Delighted that partnership working between Cardiff School Meals and Cardiff Commitment is enabling children and young people to develop catering skills whilst also supporting our service.”

At the end of the summer term School Catering will provide pupils with the opportunity to move into paid employment with the Food & Fun programme.

Charlie Batten, head of Llanishen Specialist Bases, added: “Pupils will develop employability skills and will have the opportunity to take industry relevant qualifications such as food hygiene during their placements. The project will offer the children in our provision a vital opportunity to develop the skills necessary for working in the catering industry.”
