Catering professionals prioritise new skills over a pay rise, according to new research
They surveyed 2,000 UK professionals about their career priorities. The list of career aims include:
- Learning a new skill (55.6%)
- Getting a pay rise (44.4%)
- Moving to another company (33.3%)
- Gaining a new qualification (22.2%)
- Working for themselves (22.2%)
Two thirds of the people surveyed believe their current employer isn’t responsive enough for their needs.
Lee Biggins, founder of CV-Library, said: “It’s always great to have goals in mind at work, but if these aren’t being met at your current job, don’t suffer in silence. Discuss your progression with your boss and explain what you’d like the next steps to look like.
“If you still aren’t satisfied and think you’ll get better opportunities elsewhere, then don’t hold back. Just be sure to read job adverts thoroughly and ask the right questions in interviews to ensure it meets your needs.”
The survey also asked participants about their long-term goals. Getting a pay rise (37% in five years) and learning new skills (37% in five years) remained high priorities.
