The children’s food and nutrition conference has announced LACA national chair Stephen Forster as a keynote speaker for the event, which takes place on 11 May 2020.

The conference will bring together policymakers to discuss issues including obesity prevention, inequality and clearer food labelling.

Alongside Forster, there are several other keynote speakers including Stephanie Wood founder and chief executive of School Food Matters, Tim Baker headteacher at Charlton Manor Primary School and Fran Bernhardt children’s food campaign coordinator at Sustain.

Sharon Hodgson MP has agreed to chair the seminar on children’s food and nutrition. The conference will highlight the need to support families and children maintain a healthy weight.

Delegates will examine the future policy under the new Government in tackling childhood obesity rates by 2030, including the implementation of chapter 3 of the Childhood Obesity Plan.

An independent report by former chief medical officer Professor Dame Sally Davies called for action across the public sector to help the Government to reach its target of halving childhood obesity by 2030.

Attendees will also talk about the National Food Strategy for England, which has an interim report due in the spring. Also on the agenda is a discussion on developing a food system that encourages healthy and sustainable diets.

There is expected to be a talk on the ‘Health Equity in England: The Marmot Review 10 Years On’ that is set to be published shortly to look back at the original 2010 report.

The children’s food and nutrition conference will be a good opportunity to network with key policymakers and other interested parties.
