Conservatives about to abandon school meals manifesto pledge

The Conservative Party is about to abandon its manifesto pledge to scrap universal infant free school meals and replace it with a breakfast scheme, according to The Sun.

The Sun reports that government sources have said that the Prime Minister will drop the pledge because of a ‘major reality check’ after failing to win a majority in the General Election.

A statement is expected in the Queen’s Speech on Wednesday, which will outline the new government's plans for the next term.
