Conservatives admit cost of providing breakfast could cost more than expected

The cost of providing breakfasts “will vary depending on how many pupils at any given school take up this offer”, the Conservative Party had admitted.

The admission follows Schools Week analysis that found the party has set aside 7p per pupil for the proposed breakfast scheme. This is based on the Conservative’s statement that the cost of breakfast clubs would cost £60 million a year.

The proposed scrapping of universal infant free school meals would save an estimated £650 million a year at £2.30 per meal.
