Cool Food Pro is an ‘innovative’ online carbon calculator that enables caterers to reduce their environmental impact by making small changes to the food they serve, tracking carbon savings and sharing the results with their customers.

According to research a third of all food produced is wasted globally with 6.4 million tonnes of household food wasted every year in the UK.

In Norfolk, Norse Catering reduced the food waste at Hempnall Primary School by 73% using Cool Food Pro. This was achieved by auditing the current food waste situation and discovering that the equivalent of 30% of each meal was thrown away.

With recommendations from the Cool Food Pro team, they reviewed portion sizes and implemented regular waste audits, using Cool Food Pro to monitor the situation and understand what other changes can be made. The reduction in food waste resulted in 3.76 kg of carbon savings.
