Cordia serves up Burns suppers across 170 schools
School catering provider Cordia will serve 70,000 pupils a Burns supper across 170 Glasgow schools this week in celebration of Scottish poet Robert Burns.
Both primary and secondary pupils across the city will tuck into a traditional Scottish dinner of haggis, neeps and tatties as Cordia dishes up more 550 individual haggis, 1.75 tonnes of potatoes and 600kgs of neeps.
Julia McCreadie, head of facilities management and Cordia’s hospitality arm Encore, said: “We work with our partners in Education Services to help teach pupils about the legacy of Robert Burns.
“There is no better way to mark the great man’s birthday than to serve up a traditional Burns Supper, further enshrining the work of our national poet.
“Preparing a feast of this size is an impressive achievement by our team and I applaud them for all the hard work which has been undertaken to toast this special occasion.”
Vegetarian haggis will also be on offer, while those pupils who don’t have a notion for the national dish can tuck into another Scottish favourite - more than 4,000 steak pies.
