Dr Michael Mosely to host keynote session on ultra-processed foods at LACA Main Event

21 May 2024
BBC science presenter, writer and executive producer Dr Michael Mosley will host a keynote session at the LACA Main Event titled ‘Ultra-processed Foods and Diet – Busting the Myths’.

The LACA Main Event is taking place on 3-4th July at the Birmingham Metropole with a packed programme of conference for delegates as well as competitions, cooking demos and the free-to-attend School Food Show.

Michael’s programmes on exercise (The Truth About Exercise) and diet (Eat, Fast & Live Longer - which led to the hugely popular 5:2 diet) have produced much popular and media discussion as he examined the benefits of short, high-intensity exercise and fasting for two days a week. He has received a host of BAFTA and Emmy nominations, and been named Medical Journalist of the Year by the British Medical Association.

During his keynote speech, Michael will try and tackle the definitions of what ultra-processed is and why it is so bad for our children's diets. He will also apply his understanding to the school food service and how it can continue to deliver the volumes and nutritional benefits within the tight budget restrictions.

The theme for this year’s conference, exhibition, competitions, and awards extravaganza is ‘Levelling Up School Food’, which has been chosen to put the focus on the fact that providing nutritious meals to children has become increasingly challenging due to significant cost increases, staff shortages and funding shortfalls.

To listen to Dr Michael Mosely’s keynote address, which is taking place at 4.10pm on Wednesday 3rd July, you will need to book the LACA Main Event as a delegate. For more information, visit here.
