John Morrey, who works at Sir John North Community College in Leicester, has won through to the LACA School Chef of the Year competition final from the East Midlands regional round.

Morrey, who works for City Catering, the school meals operating arm of Leicester City Council, took part in the regional round at Doveton Primary School. Nottingham on January 31st.

His winning main course comprised Red Leicester Mille Feuille (tower of pasta with chicken, chorizo, mushrooms and Red Leicester cheese), served with salad and bread.

For dessert he served up Leicester Baked Apple – an apple filled with apple noisettes and raspberries – served with crumble crust and natural yogurt.

He now goes forward to the LACA SCoTY final to be held at the Defence Foodservices School at Worthy Down on May 22nd to compete against nine other regional winners.

The competition is run by LACA (Local Authority Caterers Association) and is sponsored by MAGGI from Nestlé Professional.
