The Eat Them to Defeat Them campaign from Veg Power and ITV, has reached 1.5 million schoolchildren across the UK. Children at Annesley Primary School have been enjoying a weekly veg taster as well as a full schedule of vegetable competitions and cooking sessions.
Chef supervisor Pam Flint and teaching assistant Dawn Hornsey dressed up as carrots to serve carrot dippers with a nut-free hummus for the campaign. Visiting every class and encouraging the children to try the veg tasters, the pupils were delighted.
Pam said: “It’s all about engaging the children in healthy eating and making food an important part of the school day. We ran a competition where we asked children to choose a vegetable as a superhero and give it superpowers. We chose eight winners, one from each year group, who won a cooking session with me making a dish of their choice.”
