Eden Foodservice’s Gwyndaf Pritchard wins Education Award

03 Dec 2012

Gwyndaf Pritchard, operations manager for Eden Foodservice in Anglesey has been awarded the Food Service Management Education Award for 2012 at the recent second national FSM Awards in London on 26 November.

The Isle of Anglesey contract, which is managed by Gwyndaf, provides a bespoke service to 55 schools.

The award citation said he had led the team in successfully developing and delivering a high profile catering service, which continued to evolve to meet changing legislative requirements and customer expectations.

He had recently been focusing on health and safety, and since this activity began the number of lost time accidents reported over a 12-month period across the schools had decreased by 20.22%; working days lost had decreased by 24.29%; manual handling incidents had been reduced by 25%; the number of knife-related cutting injuries had dropped by 47%; and slipping injuries had been cut by an amazing 55%.

Some 93% of staff said that they believed the company placed a high priority on health and safety.

Gwyndaf has made a bespoke Craft Training Skills DVD, with the script and content specifically written to address the training needs identified within the Anglesey contract. He also presented the practical part of the DVD.

As a result, the number of pupils choosing school meals has increased by 6% over the past two years in Anglesey’s 50 primary and five secondary schools, equating to an extra 270 meals every day.

That meant that in 2011 Eden’s three-year contract was extended for a further two years.
