Eden opens first training and development kitchen in Bristol
As part of its commitment to supporting schools in the delivery of food education, Eden Foodservice has officially opened its first training and development kitchen in Bristol.
A key function of the new facility will be to offer nutritionally balanced cookery and nutrition workshops for pupils and school cooks with Eden’s team of chefs and nutritionists.
Paul Salisbury, managing director at Eden, said: “Our vision for the kitchen is to show our commitment to working within the Bristol community, this is especially important for schools that are unable to provide a food technology kitchen for pupils.
“Ensuring we assist schools and cooks in the provision of healthy, nutritionally balanced meals for school children is something we are truly passionate about and we’re delighted to be providing such a valuable service for the local community.”
As part of the launch ten pupils from Elmlea Junior School took part in a ‘Pizza and Bread Making Workshop’ led by Eden’s development chef and training manager for the South West, Graham Lewis.
The session covered bread making techniques such as dividing, kneading and shaping, together with pizza making, using wholemeal flour and a variety of fresh vegetables and herbs.
The objective was to demonstrate to pupils how, when using the right ingredients, a popular dish can become a healthy option. The workshop also covered the important elements of healthy eating, food awareness and safety in the kitchen.
Eden Foodservice, the creative schools caterer and part of Interserve, provides school meals in over 350 primary and secondary schools, colleges and academies across the country.
