School cook Tanya Malone, from Southam Primary School in Warwickshire, qualified for March’s LACA School Chef of the Year (SCOTY) 2018 final yesterday after winning the West Midlands regional heat.

The Educaterers’ chef won over judges with her chilli chicken fritta main and dessert of vanilla panna cotta with a orange tuile wave and fruit coulis caramel.

Malone served the fritta with crushed new potatoes, creamy spinach, coconut sauce, green beans and carrot ribbons.

Runner up in the region was Matthew Knight from Hillstone Primary school in Birmingham, while third place went to Kelly Chisholm from St Mary’s Primary in Staffordshire.

Malone joins fellow regional winners, Amanda Phillips (Yorkshire and Humberside) and Abdul Mahdoul (North East & Scotland) in qualifying for the SCOTY 2018 final on 8 March 2018 with seven more finalists still be found.
