FM Catering Services wins bronze accolade for sustainable school food

13 Nov 2025
FM Catering Services has won a bronze ProVeg School Plates Award for its healthy and sustainable menus, serving planet-friendly meals to schoolchildren across Bradford and the surrounding areas.

The ProVeg School Plates Awards are a national accreditation scheme recognising nutritious and eco-friendly menus. FM Catering Services, which caters for over 100 schools with 22,000 pupils every weekday, launched its award-winning new menu in October 2025.

The ProVeg School Plates Awards launched in 2023 and aim to set the standards for low-carbon menus across UK schools. The awards are designed to recognise the positive steps taken by caterers to create healthier, climate-friendly menus.

Alex Jemison, School Plates Awards coordinator at ProVeg UK, said: “We’re thrilled to acknowledge the great work the school is doing to create healthier and more sustainable menus. FM Catering Services is not only improving children’s health, they are also protecting their future.

“In the midst of a global climate crisis, reducing food emissions has never been more pressing, so it’s heartwarming to see how much effort and care has gone into this wonderful example of a more climate-friendly, delicious menu.”

New dishes include: Loaded Mexican-style Wedges, Creamy Cauli Mac & Cheese & Peas, Indian-style Sausage Rolls, Cowboy Sausage & Beans, Curry Club Dal with Chickpea & Coriander, Coronation Chickpea Sandwich, all available alongside a salad-counter.

Joanne Lee, senior operation manager at FM Services, added: “We’re over the moon to be serving a bronze standard menu for our children. Happy, healthy children are our priority, and the ProVeg UK recipes are both good for the children and for our planet too.

“I'd like to thank Nichola Harris, area operation manager at FM Services and ProVeg for their support and have done incredible work to make plant-based food easy and accessible. This means we’re able to reach our sustainability goals whilst maintaining a tasty and nutritious menu."

ProVeg UK is working with over 95 major catering partners across the UK through its School Plates programme, covering over 8,000 schools. Since the programme launched in 2018, the non-profit has helped turn tens of millions of school dinners meat-free or plant-based while developing tasty, nutritious, and sustainable menus.

All UK schools can participate in The ProVeg School Plates Awards for free. To learn more, visit ProVeg UK’s website, or if you are a school caterer and would like to submit your menu for review, send it to schoolplatesawards@proveg.org.
