Food for Life Get Togethers to hold Roast Dinner Day in schools

17 Oct 2019
Roast Dinner Day, on 13 November 2019, will be the first Food for Life Get Togethers event and it aims to bring people of different generations together for a roast dinner.

Roast Dinner Day falls during National School Meals Week and it is an opportunity to showcase nutritious school meals. LACA will take the opportunity, during National School Meals Week, to promote less well-known facts about school lunches whilst tackling some out-dated perceptions.

The Roast Dinner Day celebration is led by Food for Life and Knorr Professional. It aims to get more school children eating healthy lunches. Only 1% of packed lunches meet school nutritional standards, but most pupils still opt for a packed lunch rather than school meals.

Dale Cranshaw, head of Food for Life Get Togethers, said, “We are really excited to see people coming together to enjoy good food in schools and communities across the country for our first major Get Together.

“There are enormous benefits to different generations connecting in this way, including improved health and wellbeing and community cohesion, which we hope to share with more and more people throughout the Food for Life Get Togethers Programme.

“Events like Roast Dinner Day are an excellent starting point for people to make good food the easy choice for everyone in their community.”

The campaign is supported by a £5 million grant from the National Lottery Community Fund. The purpose of Roast Dinner Day is to get people together from different generations with a focus on using healthier food, tackling isolation and bringing communities together.

Alex Hall, executive chef UK at Unilever Food Solutions, said: “Our Knorr Professional Gravy Granules meet Food For Life Standards and are free from the 14 major allergens. These products are suitable for vegetarians and vegans alike and great compliment to your roast.”
