Food for Life supports Roast Dinner Day
Roast Dinner Day, 11 November, celebrates the power of uniting people over lunch to encourage school meal uptake and shine a spotlight on the work of school cooks and caterers.
Jeanette Orrey MBE, co-founder of Food for Life, said: “This Roast Dinner Day provides an opportunity to showcase what Food for Life catering teams do best every single day despite regional and national lockdowns – feeding children healthy, nutritious, locally sourced meals.
“Making roast dinners from scratch, using fresh ingredients courtesy of our fantastic local farmers and producers, is a testament to the very best of hot school food. Never has it been so important to feed every child. I’m incredibly proud of all our cooks and caterers, for all their hard work, especially in these unprecedented times.”
With the news surrounding Free School Meal holiday provision, Food for Life believes there has never been a more important time to promote the benefits of a hot school lunch.
According to research, UK families eat the most ultra-processed foods in Europe. Over half of food in Brits baskets is ultra-processed compared to just 14% in France and 10% in Portugal.
Food for Life Served Here is committed to providing meals that are 75% freshly prepared, using seasonal produce when possible. Food for Life believes a roast dinner is a ‘tasty and nutritious’ way to ensure school pupils are eating ingredients that are good for them and the planet.
