National School Meals Week – Resources/Shop

Are you ready for NSMW 2016. LACA have provided plenty of free resources on the NSMW website. Just go on, download and feel free to use as you see fit. If you require a bulk order, please complete the attached form and return via email or give us a call to place your order – prices subject to quantities required.

National School Meals Week – #COOKEDITMYSELFIE

Your chance to win £500 worth of marketing materials for your school. Like cooking? Like taking a selfie? It couldn’t be easier.

Take a snap of a meal you have cooked (preferably a school meals or a meal made with a healthy school meal recipe) and send in your picture via Twitter using the hashtag #cookeditmyselfie. We will then put all the photos in a virtual hat and pick a winner! If you haven’t got a Twitter account simply email the picture to admin@laca.co.uk.

To show off some of the very best food school caterers produce we are asking LACA members (and your families and friends) to get involved by making and sending in pictures of a modern day school meal. We have a library of recipes and videos on the NSMW website which come from all of the LACA regions, so there are plenty to choose from. You can start by producing one of these or, better still, why not showcase your own school meals recipes. You can also download a #cookeditmyselfie Tent Card from the NSMW site to use in your photo.

National School Meals Week - School Chef Visiting Fine Dining Establishments

The last couple of years have seen school caterers spreading their wings during National School Meals Week and demonstrating their skills in many fine dining restaurants across England and Wales. This is now a well-established feature of NSMW and with your help we are looking to make 2016 bigger and better than ever.  We have had some amazing PR coverage from school chefs going to work in Michelin Star restaurants, 5* hotels, Premier League Football hospitality suites, even cooking for the Prime Minister and his colleagues in the House of Commons restaurants where in 2015 they hosted a total of ten school chefs – two per day – during NSMW.

There are many other high profile and unusual places we have visited, including serving school food in the restaurant at the top of Snowdon and once again we will be sourcing a variety of top quality and quirky eateries, where diners don’t expect to find someone from a local school preparing and cooking their food alongside the regular team in the kitchen.

It is a great compliment to the school catering industry that so many outstanding venues believe that school chefs are operating on equal terms with their colleagues. It is a great experience for colleagues and one that reflects the skills and knowledge of those working in education catering today. If you want to take part in a visit or know of a venue near you who may be willing to host a chef please call Louise Hughes or Caroline Mendham on 01244 399900 or email Louise on louise.hughes@elygra.co.uk
