Hertfordshire County Council partners with primary schools on Daily Mile project

15 Sep 2016

Hertfordshire County Council and local primary schools are working together to deliver the Daily Mile project, which aims to improve physical activity levels in pupils.

The free project is one of many designed by the council to get children moving for 15 minutes every day.

The council has also welcomed the government’s commitment to reducing obesity levels in its Childhood Obesity Strategy, in particular the recognition of the importance of PE and for primary school children.

Hertfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health, Localism and Libraries, Teresa Heritage, said: “In Hertfordshire we already have a wide range of initiatives and partnerships in place that support families to make healthy lifestyle choices, enabling them to set up good habits early and secure a healthy future for our children and young people.”

All children’s centres in the area have introduced a Healthy Children’s Centre Programme, which supports families to lead healthier lifestyles through learning about the importance of healthy eating and being more active, and ensures that all snacks and drinks at the children’s centre are healthy choices.
