12 Nov 2014

Food logistics company, Igloo, is celebrating the completion of five years with the delivery of its 2,500,000th school breakfast.

Each week 250-300 schools as far as Durham and Southampton receive their meals from Magic Breakfast charity on one of Igloo’s temperature controlled vans.

Igloo assemble, package and deliver a range of breakfast products from different suppliers to schools with individual requirements and specific dietary needs. Since starting with Magic Breakfast in 2008, the contract has grown 400% from its initial 50 drops a week and is growing annually as more school are signing up to the scheme.

Alex Cunningham general manager of Magic Breakfast said: “We target schools where 35% of the children are eligible for free school meals. Children who arrive at school hungry do not concentrate so it is essential that our breakfasts arrive on time to help start their days off with a nutritious meal. Igloo has delivered our breakfasts on time every time for five years regardless of the weather, it is an amazing achievement.”

The company has also invested in a specific IT system to support the programme by enabling a more effective ordering and delivery process.
