Innovative ‘Food Cube’ concept debuts at Solihull school
Following its launch at the LACA Main Event in July, the first Food Cube from PK Food Concepts has been installed by the company in a joint partnership with client Solihull Catering Service, part of Solihull MBC.
Arden School was the chosen site for the innovative outdoor catering facility, which PK sales and marketing director Guy Truman said was being viewed more and more as a creative solution to a number of the key challenges raised in the recent School Food Plan.
He added the Food Cube offered a quick serve, queue busting solution for caterers with a full range of hot, grab & go products provided by PK Food Concepts.
Carrieanne Bishop, head of service for Solihull Catering Services, said: “We worked closely with PK Food Concepts and the school to bring the Food Cube to Arden where meals uptake was already high but we were looking at alternative ways to reduce the queuing time for students.
“We are delighted with the initial positive indications that queuing times have been reduced, meal uptake is on the up and revenue is increasing.
“The Cube, as it is known, with its Street Heats branding serves pasta and rice meals, hand-held hot eats and sandwiches. It has been overwhelmingly well received by students and staff alike.”
Truman added: “From the outset we felt that we had an innovative solution for our customers that would assist them in serving more meals, from a separate location in a more profitable manner.
“Our product development team have also worked hard on developing a full range of products for the Cube that not only offer a quick serve solution but require minimal preparation prior to service.
“We’re delighted that at Arden all parties have a real success story on their hands.”
There are plans to extend service beyond purely breaktime and lunchtime with after school and external events also having the benefit of the Cube.
