ISS Hold Food Education Event Day for pupils in Richmond
In October 2015 ISS Facility Services held a Food Education Event Day (FEED) for local schools in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
The event took place at the town hall in Twickenham and welcomed pupils, teachers, parents and members of the local community including the Mayor. It was designed to educate children on the importance of eating healthy, good quality food.
The ISS education catering team showed pupils where the ingredients in their school lunches come from, through providing food information, tasters and opportunities to meet various ISS partners and suppliers.
Over 250 pupils attended the event and took part in activities such as fruit carving, mystery challenges, blind tasting and riding a ‘smoothie bike’ which required pedaling to blend the ingredients of a smoothie.
Partners such as the Soil Association (who award the Food for Life Catering Mark), Bidvest, Yeo Valley and School Food Matters, joined the action.
Steve Kemp, Divisional Director at ISS Education said: “It was fantastic to see so many children engaging with the activities at our Food Education Event Day. Our local team has worked really hard to achieve the Gold Food for Life Catering Mark and these events have been a great opportunity for us to show schools the work we’ve done around food educating and sourcing.”
