Katherine Ruffalls advances to SCOTY national final

10 Jun 2024
Katherine Ruffalls from Nourish Catering has emerged victorious in the London regional final of the School Chef of the Year (SCOTY) competition.

She was competing against five other school chefs from the local area to gain a place in the national final of SCOTY, which will take place from 3-4th July at the LACA Main Event.

The regional finalists had to use a minimum of one Bisto product in their main course and one Premier Foods ingredient in their dessert. Judges were looking for ‘innovative and creative ways’ the products have been used in the finished dishes.

Katherine made a vegan bean chilli and sweet potato taco bowl served with coconut, avocado and lime sauce, cheese crisps and salad. For dessert she created a vegan/gluten free chocolate and avocado fudge brownie served with a sugar snap biscuit, summer berries and coconut cream.

Louise Wagstaffe, Premier Food’s senior culinary adviser and SCOTY head judge, said: “The planning and thought that went into both Katherine’s dishes shone through, enabling her to create a vegan menu that could be enjoyed by everyone. I’m excited to see her compete in the national finals.”

Katherine is the eighth school chef to qualify automatically for the SCOTY national final. The 2024 national winner will receive a £1,000 cash prize, the 2024 LACA School Chef of the Year trophy and an invitation to a calendar of catering industry events. The national second and third place winners will receive £500 and £300, respectively.
