LACA chair appears on Radio 2 to discuss rising food prices
Figures from the Office for National Statistics showed prices increased on average by 8.7% in the year to April. It is the first time that figure has dropped below 10% since August 2022.
Pearce said: “We’ve seen those food cost increases impact the available budgets. Added to the increase in labour costs, I think it is absolutely fair to say that some caterers will find it very difficult to see beyond this financial year to be able to deliver that service. We’re getting to the point where there is very little else that we can do mitigate any of these price increases.”
During Prime Minister’s Questions time Rishi Sunak informed MPs that the Government was providing ‘significant support’ to help people with the cost of living crisis. He also said that the Chancellor Jeremy Hunt had met with companies, supermarkets and food producers in the supply chain to make sure they are doing everything they can to bring prices down.
