LACA encourages members to book their place at autumn seminar

07 Oct 2025
LACA, the school food people, has encouraged members to book their place at the autumn seminar, which is taking place on Thursday 13th November at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Kenilworth.

This annual one-day event brings together professionals from the school catering sector for a programme filled with key insights, strategic updates and inspiring case studies. LACA says the day promises valuable insights, networking opportunities and practical ideas to take back to your teams.

Neil Porter, LACA business director, said: “Join us for an engaging and informative day packed with insight, discussion and inspiration. The agenda features a strategic update from LACA national chair Michael Hales, followed by a lively panel debate on the benefits of outsourcing versus in-house management of school meals services.”

It's a valuable opportunity for school food providers, local authority representatives, suppliers, and industry stakeholders to engage with current issues affecting school meals across the UK. The seminar's agenda is designed to address the most pressing topics in the sector.

One major area of focus this year is the ongoing debate around outsourcing versus in-house catering services, offering perspectives from both sides to help decision-makers determine the best model for their schools or regions.

Another key feature will be an update on National School Meals Week, including its successes, challenges, and the impact it has had on awareness and uptake of school meals nationwide. Book your place here.

Attendees can also expect a political briefing that explores how recent and upcoming policy changes may affect the sector—particularly in light of rising costs, funding pressures, and increasing calls for universal free school meals. This timely discussion aims to prepare school food professionals for the political and economic realities that influence their work.

The seminar includes multiple case study presentations, showcasing excellence in school catering operations. These real-world examples offer practical ideas for improving services, increasing meal uptake, and enhancing student satisfaction.

Delegates will hear directly from peers who are innovating in areas such as sustainability, nutrition, food education, and community engagement. The case studies include:

  • Yorkshire & Humberside Region - Running successful regional events: Jo Webster/Kath Breckon
  • What makes an exceptional award winning service – Leadership and creativity: Susan Vuli, Shire Services
  • Impact Food Group – A contractor on the rise: LACA vice chair elect Bryan Lygate

A highlight of the event will be a live interview with the 2025 School Chef of the Year, providing insights into the creativity, passion, and commitment that define the best in the profession.

The LACA Autumn Seminar is not only informative but also a prime networking opportunity, allowing attendees to connect with colleagues, suppliers, and industry experts. It continues to be a key event in the school food calendar, helping drive improvements and celebrate successes in school catering across the UK.

Mid-morning brunch will be provided and free parking is available for day delegates, subject to availability. There is also an option to book accommodation and places at the informal dinner on Wednesday 12th November ahead of the event.
