LACA Grab ‘N’ Go finalist spotlight: Angela McCurry
The winner will be given a demonstration slot on the LACA Live feature on Thursday 6th July to showcase their winning dish. In the final Anegla will create a veggie Caribbean pasty.
The school chefs will be judged on the originality of their dish, how well the flavours and ingredients worked together, the variety of textures in the finished dish and the appealing look of their grab & go item.
Angela said: “I got into school catering as I became a mother, there is something really special about feeding the next generation and helping to support them. Skills-hub is a special school, it has been the most rewarding job, I have formed fantastic relationships with students who do not eat properly and I encouraged them to taste different dishes. I have grown to understand the students and their likes as well as dislikes.
“I feel really passionate about helping support these students, many of them haven’t had the best start in life. Through food we can achieve so much, its great having discussions around food with them, it’s so rewarding as they are all learning to try different foods. It makes me so proud of them and the job that I am doing is actually making a difference to their lives.”
