LACA to host webinar calling for fairer school meals funding

14 Jan 2025
LACA, the school food people, has opened up their Campaign Update Webinar to non-members to help spread the word about the need for fairer school meals funding.

The LACA webinar will take place on Wednesday 5th February at 2.30pm. Chair Judith Gregory will update members and other interested individuals on LACA's campaign for fairer school meals funding as well as sharing LACA’s plans for 2025.

LACA are calling for more school meals funding to deal with the increased cost of food prices and of staff. LACA says the current situation is unsustainable as many caterers, particularly smaller and medium sized companies, will find it difficult to continue operating threatening thousands of jobs.

In 2024 LACA hosted several events highlighting the need for fairer school meals funding such as The Great School Lunch at the House of Commons, the LACA Main Event and the Autumn Seminar.

The school food people are calling for a minimum free school meal value in England of £3.00 per meal (index linked). LACA said they were ‘extremely concerned for the future of the industry’ after the Government announced that universal infant free school meals (UIFSM) funding will increase by just 5p per meal to £2.58.

The programme will also include:

  • Political update and impact on campaign - Menara Advisors
  • Bidfood lobbying activity - Gavin Squires
  • Q&A session open to all to discuss ideas and give input
