LACA chair of events, Neil Porter, has announced the route that the National School Meals Week 2017 ‘Powered by School Meals’ Marathon will take between 13 and 17 November.

The marathon is set to stop in all ten LACA regions, starting in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales and ending in LACA’s West Midlands territory as the NSMW team arrive for the LACA Autumn National Seminar in Kenilworth.

“After consultation with the LACA regional chairs, I am delighted to confirm plans are coming together for what will be a very busy week, including marathon stops in all LACA regions,” said Porter.

The week will begin with the LACA Wales committee showcasing breakfasts before the marathon moves into Bristol.

Day two will take in the South East and London regions, and by the middle of the week the stages in East of England and East Midlands regions will have been completed.

On the penultimate day the marathon will stop in the combined Scotland and North East region, completing the day’s activities with the Yorkshire and Humberside committee and SCOTY winner Tracy Healey in Dewsbury.

On the Friday it will be LACA North West starting off the marathon action in Media City in Salford before the final stop in the West Midlands region.

Porter said: “It is really exciting and each region is already getting involved in celebrating all that is great about school food in their part of the world. LACA are encouraging involvement at all levels with pupils, teaching staff, LACA regional committee members and even our catering teams joining in the run.

“The schools acting as food stations will be providing the very best in education catering to power LACA NSMW’s team member Karen Robinson on her 131 mile journey and we are confident that local and regional media in each area will be reporting on the events as they happen.

“Importantly, it will demonstrate to the widest possible audience just how healthy, nutritious and delicious today’s school meals really are and how they energise pupils for a busy day of work, play and education.”

The marathons are also acting as fundraisers for the British Heart Foundation, which is the chosen charity for incoming LACA chair Tim Blowers. A Just Giving page is being established and donations from all corners of the education catering industry are welcome.
