LACA partners with David Baddiel & Harper Collins to create competition for schoolchildren
David’s latest book ‘Small Fry’ is about a boy who created the world’s best burger. Benny Burns spends every weekend helping his dad by working at their burger van, parked outside the local football ground.
When Benny finds his grandfather’s old recipe book and begins following its instructions, he starts cooking incredible food – so good, in fact, that he attracts the unwanted attention of fast food giant Bonkers Burgers. To CEO Bodley Bonkers, Benny and his burgers are a threat that must be eliminated… by any means necessary.
Along with his dad and his two best friends, Jasper and Mina, Benny must find a way to defeat Bonkers Burgers, help rescue his dad’s business, and share his passion for cooking with the world – a mission that leads to him competing with the world’s greatest chef to cook the best burger.
David will be visiting Central Park Primary School in Newham to support the launch and Harper Collins is running a competition for children to enter by creating their own ‘award winning’ burger.
The winners will be announced on the Friday of National School Meals Week (11-15th November). The best burger picture will win a set of ten books by David. A separate competition offers schools the chance to win £150 of books for the library. Enter here.
He commented: “I’m delighted to be part of National School Meals Week, run by LACA. When I was a kid I actually loved school dinners for a secret reason! My mum was a terrible cook and I didn’t really know this until I got to eat some dinners at school and I really liked them, especially a dessert called spotted dick and custard.”
