LACA updates on marathon challenge for National School Meals Week
LACA’s Chair of Events, Neil Porter, said the marathons would try to be as representative and inclusive of the LACA regions across England and Wales as possible. He hopes that pupils, staff and regional LACA members will be able to join Karen for a mile or more.
Porter said: “Most importantly is that schools will be acting as food stations as the marathons around England and Wales are being fuelled purely by school meals coming courtesy of school caterers.
“It will highlight just how healthy, nutritious and delicious today’s school meals really are, not forgetting the energy they give pupils for a busy day or work, play and education.”
One of the beneficiaries of the NSMW Marathons will be the British Heart Foundation, which is the chosen charity of LACA Vice Chair Tim Blowers, who will have taken over as LACA Chair by the time of the November event.
Blowers added: “This will be a marvellous event and we are all excited and totally supportive of it. It is a great way to demonstrate the quality, virtues and importance of education catering today and is particularly pertinent in the light of the discussions currently surrounding UIFSM.”
The definitive route for the marathons is currently being finalised, as are plans to get regional chairs involved.
LACA’s National School Meals Week takes place from November 13th – 17th.
