Primary school children from across the city are being asked to vote for the Leeds school ‘Dinner Lady of the Year 2012’ in a competition organised by Real Radio and the Yorkshire Evening Post.

It is part of the ‘Leeds Loves Food’ festival, which takes places throughout the city from May 25-27.

Organisers say they are looking to find the school catering assistant who provides healthy but tasty meals that children look forward to.

The winning dinner lady will be crowned by celebrity chef Brian Turner at the festival’s Yorkshire Food and Drink Show on Millennium Square on May 25th.

The winner will also receive a relaxing spa morning for two at Oulton Hall, Leeds, including a 60-minute treatment in the VIP room, followed by a champagne afternoon tea in the Drawing Room.

In addition, the successful school will win a party at the start of the new term courtesy of Asda, the competition’s sponsor.

Entries from children have to explain in no more than 20 words why their school catering assistant is the best. The deadline is Friday, May 18th.

In addition, Real Radio will be launching an online book of listener’s recipe which will go under the title of ‘Real Yorkshire Recipes for Real Yorkshire Folk’.

The Leeds Loves Food festival is now in its seventh year and other highlights include a series of Global Food Markets at Leeds Kirkgate Markets to showcase the diverse range of international foods on offer at Leeds Markets, with a special focus on the culinary traditions of the countries coming to Leeds this summer to prepare their teams for the Olympic Games: China, Russia, Australia, Canada and the Netherlands.
