Local schools launch Scottish Baker of the Year 2019
Open to bakers across the country, the annual competition aims to support and promote their interests, with ambassador Mich Turner urging “everyone who pops into their local bakery to vote for their favourite baked goodies.”
“Your votes could help them win Scottish Baker of the Year 2019,” he added.
To mark the start of the competition, pupils from Galston Primary School and Onthank Primary School will go head-to-head in a ‘Generation Game’ style bake-off.
Voting will then open 6 March for two weeks, with nomination forms available in all participating bakeries and online via http://scottishbakers.org/.
Turner added: “(Scottish Baker of the Year 2019) will be hotly contested. I’m expecting to find some real bakery stars of the future in the young people who are coming along, and the stakes are high.”
Alasdair Smith (of organiser Scottish Bakers) added: “With thousands of pies, scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits sold in Scotland every day, our bakers work hard to keep us all going.
“We are delighted to once again give Scottish bakers the chance to shine and showcase their skills, but we need people at home to vote.
“So ask your baker for a voting form or log on to our website to vote now.”
The winner will be announced at gala dinner 8 June at the Crowne Plaza (Glasgow).
