Love British Food publishes interview with PSC Alliance chair Jayne Jones

With a career spanning both school and hospital catering as well as experience as former chair of ASSIST FM representing 32 Scottish local authorities, Jones brings unique insight into transforming public sector food procurement.
In the interview, Jones discusses the opportunities presented by Scotland’s Good Food Nation Act, which places a legal duty on public bodies to create sustainable food system shifts.
She also outlines practical steps to increase local and organic sourcing, support farming communities, and ensure patients, children, and young people enjoy nutritious, locally produced meals.
Highlighting successes such as Quality Meat Scotland red meat in hospitals, MSC-certified Scottish fish and pilots introducing wild venison and organic peas to public menus, Jones emphasises the importance of building trust with farmers and realistic, targeted procurement goals.
The conversation also explores her work with the Public Sector Catering Alliance to establish an all-party parliamentary group on public sector food and her belief that public caterers must have a stronger voice in UK food policy.
Jones’ passion is rooted in personal experience - her mother was a dinner lady - and in the privilege of feeding society’s most vulnerable with food that supports both health and local communities.
