10 Jun 2024
Mark Kent from Cucina Norton Knatchbull, who came in third place at the 2023 SCOTY national final, won the South East regional final that took place at Brakes Kitchen in Reading.

Competitors must prepare, cook and present four portions of a main course and dessert with a total food cost of £1.60 per head in 90 minutes that meet the School Food Standards and Eat Well Guide.

Regional final winners will each receive a £100 cash prize. At the national final, the 2024 national winner will receive a £1,000 cash prize, the 2024 LACA School Chef of the Year trophy and an invitation to a calendar of catering industry events. The national second and third place winners will receive £500 and £300 respectively.

During the regional final Mark cooked vegetable Wellington, creamed potatoes and roasted carrots for his main course. For dessert he made a glazed pear conde with blackberry gel.

Louise Wagstaffe, Premier Food’s senior culinary adviser and SCOTY head judge, said: “The judges were impressed with the quality of Mark’s vegetable Wellington and dessert, two dishes that required high-levels of skill and precision to execute. It’s fantastic to see Mark advance into the national finals once again following a strong showing in last year’s competition.”

School meal providers can register for free entry to the School Food Show to watch the competitors in action at the national final on the 3rd and 4th July.
