McCain Foods donates 1m meals to FareShare

09 Jun 2022
Since March 2020 McCain Foods has donated the equivalent of one million meals to food redistribution charity FareShare, which supports vulnerable people facing food insecurity throughout the UK.

McCain Foods has supported over 3,000 charities and community groups within the FareShare network by donating raw potatoes as well as a range of frozen potato products including oven chips and jacket potatoes.

Mark Hodge, marketing director of McCain Foods, said: “As a family-run business, helping local communities has always been a priority for McCain and we’re immensely proud to have reached one million donations to FareShare. It’s a huge achievement for our business and our teams who have worked tirelessly to get the products to those in need during the pandemic.

“However, we must also recognise just how many people were in need. As families now manage the rising cost of living, our focus remains on supporting thriving communities, a key part of which includes our close partnership with FareShare.”

By providing charities and community groups with frozen surplus products it enables them to create nutritious meals for their beneficiaries.

Lindsay Boswell, chief executive of FareShare, added: “We are very grateful to McCain Foods for their ongoing support, especially since the pandemic began. Demand for our food is as high as it’s ever been, with families and vulnerable individuals experiencing difficult hardship with the current rising cost of living.

“The vital food supplies from McCain Foods allow us to continue supporting communities and getting good-to-eat surplus food onto the plates of those who need it. We look forward to continuing our partnership with McCain Foods.”
